Count Study Details

In the Count Study, we talk to adults with intellectual disability, including people of color, from all over the country to learn about their health, mental health, and wellbeing. We count how many adults with ID have health and mental health concerns, like feeling worried (anxiety) or sad (depression) a lot of the time.

  • 1

We will interview 800+ adults with ID about their health, mental health, and wellbeing. We will also interview someone who knows them well.

  • 2

By interviewing adults with ID nationwide, we will learn how common health and mental health concerns are for adults with ID.

  • 3

We do not want to leave any group out of this study. We are careful to include adults with ID who are Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino. This way, our findings will truly represent adults with ID in the United States.

  • 4
These findings can be used to improve the health and healthcare of adults with ID.

  • 5

Special Olympics is a partner on this study. Special Olympics promotes health and wellness in mind and body for people with disabilities through programs and events. With the help of Special Olympics, we will reach many communities in different states.

At the end of this study, we will improve our measures so they are accurate and easy to understand. We will share our measures with researchers and doctors so they can use them to help adults with ID.
