Measure Study Details

In the Measure Study, we make and test clear language measures so that adults with intellectual disability can speak for themselves about their health.

  • 1

Fifty (50) adults with ID will complete a clear language survey on their health and wellbeing. Before they see their doctor, we will give them a clear-language report describing their answers to the survey. Then, we will ask them and their doctor if the report helps them speak openly about their health.

Five hundred (500) college students will complete our clear-language health survey as well as the original survey that is not written in clear language. We want to see if the two surveys measure the same ideas.

We will review and update our health survey based on our data. We will then create a scoring guide so that other researchers and doctors can use the survey to help adults with ID.

Marci Straughter, a member of the Disability Experience Expert Panel (DEEP), speaks on how people of color improve our research.
