Dr. Robert Fletcher is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD). His vision and leadership have positioned NADD to be recognized as the world’s leading organization in providing educational resources, training materials, consultation services, and conferences concerning mental health aspects in persons with IDD, as well as accreditation and certification programs. Dr. Fletcher has dedicated his professional career to improving the lives of individuals who have a dual diagnosis of mental illness and intellectual disability. He developed the first day treatment program for people with a dual diagnosis in the late 1970’s followed by opening an outpatient mental health clinical service for this population. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and 12 books in areas related to clinical, programmatic, policy, and research in the field of dual diagnosis. He is the Chief Editor of both the textbook and clinical guide of the Diagnostic Manual – Intellectual Disabilities (DM-ID and DM-ID-2).

Dr. Fletcher earned a bachelor’s degree from Marquette University, a master’s degree in social work from Washington University, and a doctorate in social work with honors from Hunter College School of Social Work – City University of New York. He is the recipient of numerous national awards including the Frank J. Menolascino Award for Excellence from NADD and the Outstanding Leadership and Commitments in the Field Award from AAIDD.
